Bateman started her acting career when she was a teenager performing the role of a shallow Mallory Keaton in Family Ties. She continued to play the role until 1989. She was the host of an episode of the 13th season of Saturday Night Live in 1988. She received nominations for two Emmy Awards as well as an Golden Globe Award for her work on Family Ties.
