 Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (/'z^k@rbe:rg/; born May 14, 1984) is an American business magnate, internet entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is known for co-founding the social media website Facebook and its parent company Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc.), of which he is the chairman, chief executive officer, and controlling shareholder.Zuckerberg attended Harvard University, where he launched Facebook in February 2004 with his roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. It was initially limited to college campuses, the site was quickly growing and eventually went beyond colleges, reaching 1 billion users in 2012. Zuckerberg made the company public in May 2012 with majority stakes. He became the highest-paid billionaire of his own at the age of 23 years old. He has used his money to support a number of charitable causes, including the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative since 2008. Time magazine has named Zuckerberg among the 100 most influential people across the world as part of itPerson of the Year , an award was awarded to him in 2010.In December of 2016, Zuckerberg was ranked tenth on the Forbes list of the World's Most Powerful People. He was ranked 11th in the Forbes 400 list for wealthiest Americans 2022, with an estimated net worth of $57.7billion. This is a decrease from his ranking as the third-richest American in 2021 with an estimated net worth of $134.5billion. In the last week of December 2022, Zuckerberg's net worth stood at $42.4 billion according to the Forbes Real Time Billionaires making him the 26th richest person in the world. A documentary about Zuckerberg's professional life, The Social Network, was released in 2010.
