Lecy Goranson

Goranson was a student of acting in Chicago and then was offered the part of Becky Conner. This was her second audition for a part. She played the character for five seasons, before leaving the show in 1992, several episodes into the fifth season, to go to Vassar College. She was able to keep her appearances as Becky because of her academic schedule. The writers and producers of the show wrote only a few scenes for Becky in her new contract. Becky separated from Mark after Goranson left. During the following season the producers were determined to revive the character. Goranson was not available and so Sarah Chalke auditioned and won the role. Chalke was Becky throughout the sixth and seventh seasons. The show was in its eighth season, Goranson was able to play Becky again while still attending college. She replaced Chalke. Goranson played a guest actor in the eighth season of the show, but she was again faced with problems with scheduling with school. Goranson was forced to cancel episodes in which Becky played Becky in two instances: Darlene's marriage and a family trip to Walt Disney World. Chalke played Becky for the two episodes. Goranson was Becky again towards the end of the season. Goranson declined to continue the role after the show was renewed for a ninth season. She was in school. Chalke returned to the show for the ninth season, in which she made her final appearance in that role. Chalke played the role of Andrea, who attempts to recruit Becky to become an embryo-mom surrogate.
