Alina Ilnazovna Zagitova (Russian: Alina Il'nazovna Zagitova, IPA: [a'ljin@ za'gjit@v@]; born 18 May 2002) is a Russian figure skater. She is the 2018 Olympic champion as well as the 2019 World champion, the 2018 European champion, 2017-18 Grand Prix Final champion, and the 2018 Russian national champion. Zagitova, who accompanied the Olympic athletes from the Russia team also earned silver in the team event of the 2018's Winter Olympics. The International Skating Union currently ranks Zagitova as 36th in women's singles skating. Zagitova is the only Russian female skater to have won gold at the Olympic Games and the World Figure Skating Championships. She also holds the European Figure Skating Championships title. Zagitova is the only Muslim athlete to win the Olympic figure skating gold medal as well as a world championship and the Super Slam. Following Yuna Kim she is the second-youngest and most successful female singles skater to win gold in every important ISU championships. These include the Junior Grand Prix Series, Final, World Junior Championships Grand Prix Series, Final, European Championships and Winter Olympic Games. She took home the gold medal earlier in her career, at the 2017 World Junior Championships as well in the 2016-17 Junior Grand Prix Final. In the 2016-17 Junior Grand Prix Final, she became the first junior lady to reach a total score above 200. Zagitova broke the world record once under the old system and four times under the new system.
