Alicia Sacramone

Sacramone was 14th in all-around during the 2003 National Championships. She also won a bronze medal for floor exercise, and fourth place on vault. This earned her a spot on the team for their national team. She also participated in her first international competition with senior status in the Massilia Gym Cup, Marseille, France. There, she was fourth on floor and ninth in vault. Sacramone took home the individual vault title and helped to help the U.S. team win the gold medal at the Pacific Alliance Championships, Honolulu in 2004. Her performance attracted the attention of the media, who began to mention her as a possible candidate for the American team in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. However, at the 2004 U.S. Nationals, an unprofessional performance cost her her hopes of getting an Olympic selection. Although she tied with Mohini Bhardwaj for the silver medal on the vault, she finished 19th overall and was not able to make it for the Olympic Trials. She also injured her back and required rest time to recover. Sacramone was a competitor at the end of 2004 on the team representing Romania. Additionally, she was scheduled to participate in international meets, including the Pan American Individual Event Championships where she won the vault title and the floor exercise title. 16 years ago, at the World Cup Finals in Birmingham, England, she attracted media attention again when she beat the reigning Olympic vault champion Monica Rosu of Romania to be first in the competition.
