Alicia Augello Cook, born January 25, 1981 was an American musician, singer and pianist. Keys is a classically trained pianist who began writing songs at age 12, was signed to Columbia Records at the age of 15. After disputes with the label and her contract with the label, she was signed by Arista Records and later released her debut album, Songs in A Minor in 2001, under the label J Records in 2001. It was a commercially and critically acclaimed album that sold over 12 million copies across the globe. Keys was awarded five Grammy Awards for her album in 2002. It was the home of "Fallin'", the top Billboard Hot 100 single. Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003) The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003) was a huge critical and commercial hit, with eight million copies around the world, and producing singles "You Don't Know My Name", "If I Ain't Got You", and "Diary". The album earned the singer four Grammy Awards.
