Williams began performing stand-up comedy in San Francisco in the mid-1970s. He gained acclaim as the mysterious Mork in the ABC sitcom Mork & Mindy (1978-1982). He was a part of a variety of critically and commercially successful films such as The World According to Garp (1982), Moscow on the Hudson (1984) and Good Morning, Vietnam (87), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) and Dead Poets Society(1989), Awakenings(90), The Fisher King (1991), Patch Adams (1998), One Hour Photo (2002) and World's Greatest Dad (2009). Hook (1991), Aladdin (92), Mrs. Doubtfire (93), Jumanji (95), The Birdcage (1996), Good Will Hunting (191997) and the Night at the Museum trilogy (2006-2014) were among his box-office hits. The actor was nominated for four Academy Awards and won Best Supporting actor in Good Will Hunting. He also received nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards and six Golden Globe Awards.
