Martins Licis

In the year 2015, Licis placed first in the Odd Haugen All-American Strength Classic. Licis was sixth at the World's Strongest Man finals in 2016 in his debut appearance. He finished fourth in the World's Strongest Man finals in 2017 and 2018. Licis wrestles in Strongman and Mas-Wrestling. He was crowned champion at the 2016 MAS Wrestling Open World Championships in Columbus Ohio, beating out previous champion VIktor Kolibabchuk. Licis' first pro triumph was in 2017 during the Ultimate Strongman Summermania, winning the tournament as a representative of his country, Latvia. In 2019, Licis came in second during the Arnold Strongman Classic, placing ahead of the current champion and 3x champion Hafthor Julius Bjornsson. In June of that year, however, he won his first World's Strongest Man title, beating the defending champion Bjornsson, who finished in third after suffering a torn plantar fascia on his left foot during the heats which significantly hindered his performance during the final. Licis also placed ahead of Mateusz Koliszkowski who placed second, and 4 times World's Strongest Man winner Brian Shaw who finished sixth still recovering his injury to his hamstring sustained during the Arnold Strongman Classic earlier in March of that year. Licis won two of the five events and placed in the top three in each discipline.
