Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago,West gained recognition as a producer at Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, releasing singles for various artists and developing the "chipmunk soul" sampling style. He chose to start a solo career as a rapper and released The College Dropout (2004), which was a critical and commercial success. The label was founded by him GOOD Music later that year. The albums Late Registration (2005) and Graduation (2006), West explored a wide range of musical elements like orchestras, synthesizers and autotune. The fifth and sixth albums My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) and Yeezus (2013) were also greeted with critical and commercial success. West further diversified his musical styles with The Life of Pablo (2016) and Ye (2018) and also explored Christian and gospel music in Jesus Is King (2019). The tenth album of his Donda (2021) was released to continued commercial success but mixed critical reception.
