Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago, West gained recognition as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, creating singles for several artists and developing the "chipmunk soul" sampling style. Determined to pursue an independent career as a rapper, West released his debut album The College Dropout (2004) with critical and commercial success. In the following year, he established GOOD Music. West experimented with various musical elements like synthesizers, orchestras, and autotune on the albums Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), and 808s and Heartbreak (2008). His fifth and sixth albums My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) and Yeezus (2013) were also met with critical and commercial success. West expanded his style of music with The Life of Pablo (2016) and Ye (2018) and also explored Christian and gospel in Jesus Is King (2019). The tenth album Donda (2021), which was his tenth, saw an increase in sales with mixed reviews. West's discography also includes the full-length albums Watch the Throne (2011) by Jay-Z and Kids See Ghosts (2018) by Kid Cudi.
