Charley Jordan

Charley Jordan, born July 11, 1890, passed away on November 15th in 1954. He was an American St. Louis Blues singer as well as songwriter and guitarist. His distinctive style was an ode to his roots in the countryside. The Killer Blues Headstone Project placed the headstone of Charley Jordan. He also recorded a number of singles for Vocalion between 1930 between 1930 and 1937. Peetie, Roosevelt Sykes and Casey Bill Weldon were among Jordan's musical co-workers. He is famous for his "crisply-firm guitar" that was the foundation of many of his biggest hits, like "Keep it Clean" during the early to mid-1930s. He was a collaborator alongside Big Joe Williams in later years. In 1928, Jordan was injured in his spinal column. It was due to his additional musical work as a bootlegger. Jordan was diagnosed with a permanent handicap from which he was forced to utilize crutches. (This is evident in the photographs of Jordan) Jordan died in 1954 from pneumonia or violence in St. Louis.
