Alicia Sacramone

Sacramone was 14th overall during the 2003 National Championships. She also received a bronze medal in floor exercise, and fourth place on vault. This helped her get a place on the team for nationals. She also competed in her first international competition of senior level in the Massilia Gym Cup, Marseille, France. There, she placed fourth on the floor and ninth on vault. Sacramone was awarded the title of vaulting individual and was a part of to help the U.S. team win the gold medal at the Pacific Alliance Championships, Honolulu in 2004. The media started to pay attention to her performance and began to discuss her as a possible contender for the American team in the Athens 2004 Olympics. The hopes of her being a participant in the Olympic Trials in Athens were thwarted by an inexplicably poor performance in the 2004 U.S. Nationals. She placed 19th overall, not being able to compete in the Olympic Trials. Mohini Bhardwaj was a close second to her to win the silver vault. The back injury she suffered also forced her to rest for a period of time. Sacramone was a competitor at the end of 2004 on the team representing Romania. Additionally, she was sent to international competitions which included the Pan American Individual Event Championships in which she took home the vault title as well as the floor exercise title. She took home the floor and vault titles during the World Cup Finals in Birmingham (England) in which she beat Monica Rosu, the reigning Olympic vault champion from Romania.
